David Bowie is “fairly adamant he’s never gonna perform live again”

The return of David Bowie this week has been ever-so-slightly bruised by hints that he won’t tour behind his new album, The Next Day. According to the Guardian earlier this week, Bowie had no plans for any live dates, with a spokesman saying, “[Bowie] writes and performs what he wants when he wants.” In next month’s NME, the bruise gets a little darker.

“He’s fairly adamant he’s never gonna perform live again,” says producer Toni Visconti, who recently revealed details of Bowie’s first album in in 10 years. “…One of the guys would say, ‘Boy, how are we gonna do all this live?’ and David said, ‘We’re not’. He made a point of saying that all the time.”

Update: Visconti has clarified his comments on Twitter: “I never said Bowie would never perform live again. Pitchfork made that up. He won’t tour for this album — that’s all I said.”
