Rocker Jack White has an out of this world music idea – he wants to play the first ever vinyl record in space.
The former The White Stripes star is currently working on a secret science project with his Third Man Records label, but detailed his plans to iconic astronaut Buzz Aldrin during a chat for Interview Magazine.
He told Aldrin, “We have a secret project at Third Man where we want to have the first vinyl record played in outer space. We want to launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player… and figure out a way to drop the needle with all that turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play.”
Aldrin replied, “There’s no turbulence up there if you get up high enough. But I know the guy who is Ceo of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic. Maybe you should talk to him. Richard is always interested in doing unusual things.”
White isn’t the only celebrity to be bitten by the space bug – in March (12), Ashton Kutcher paid a reported $200,000 (£125,000) for a spot onboard a future Virgin Galactic spaceflight.
