Codeine Reform & Reissue Albums

Slowcore pioneers Codeine are to reform for a series of live shows following the reissue of all three of their albums, it has been revealed.

The original line-up – vocalist/bassist Stephen Immerwahr, guitarist John Engle and even drummer Chris Brokaw, who originally defected to another band in 1992 – will reunite for their first live performances since 1994, starting with an appearance at the All Tomorrow’s Parties three-day takeover of the Alexandra Palace between May 25-27th.

The reunion, which will see the three-piece play a string of dates in the US as well as Europe, commemorates the reissue of their back catalogue. All three of their albums – 1990’s Frigid Stars, 1992’s Barely Real and 1994’s The White Birch – are due to be re-released on vinyl by Chicago-based label Numero Group on May 7th. Packaged as double albums with a CD of the same material, each LP will boast singles, demos, Peel sessions and live tracks from the period, with elaborate packaging and extensive liner notes as standard. A deluxe box set of all three albums, limited to 1000 copies, will also be available. (Via The Quietus)
