Panda Bear’s ‘Tomboy’ Due in April

Animal Collective singer, percussionist and general sonic scientist Panda Bear has unveiled UK release details of his latest solo excursion.

The follow up to 2007’s acclaimed ‘Person Pitch’ will be titled ‘Tomboy’ and will be available to buy in British record shops on April 18, the NME reports. According to the performer known to his parents as Noah Lennox, the fourth Panda Bear project will mark a departure from the experimental, sample-heavy sound of his previous efforts and will feature, to an extent, an embrace of a more conventional rock and roll formula.

“I got tired of the severe parameters of using samplers,” Lennox explains. “Thinking about Nirvana and the White Stripes got me into the idea of doing something with a heavy focus on guitar and rhythm.”

‘Tomboy’ has been mixed by British musician Sonic Boom, best known for his collaborations with Spiritualized’s Jason Pierce in the pair’s influential ’80s band Spacemen 3. Sonic Boom (real name Peter Kember) also produced MGMT’s 2010 album ‘Congratulations’ and will perform with his current outfit Spectrum at May’s Animal Collective-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Minehead, Somerset.

‘Tomboy’ will be released on Domino records in the UK and will feature singles ‘You Can Count on Me’ and the title track.
