On August 28, the enduring legacy of France’s legendary lounge-pop louche Serge Gainsbourg be fêted at the Hollywood Bowl by some pretty big names: Beck, Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste, Beach House’s Victoria Legrand, Zola Jesus’ Nika Roza Danilova, Sean Lennon, Mike Patton, and Pink Martini’s China Forbes will all take part in “Serge Gainsbourg Tribute With Jean-Claude Vannier”.
As the event title suggests, the tribute concert will be led by composer, arranger, and frequent Gainsbourg collaborator Jean-Claude Vannier with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. Gainsbourg’s 10.0 classic LP, 1971’s Histoire de Melody Nelson, will be performed in full, as will Vannier’s own excellent 1972 debut L’Enfant Assasin des Mouches, as well as other Gainsbourg songs. The event is part of KCRW’s World Festival. (Via Pitchfork)
