American maverick rockers DEVO are to release new album ‘Something For Everybody’ on June 14th.
It’s difficult to classify DEVO. Formed before the punk explosion, their irreverent take on rock’s legacy remains slightly unsettling even after the passing of three decades.
Returning for another blast of new material, perhaps it’s best to just label them ‘DEVO’ and be done with it. Almost entirely self contained, the band remain hugely influential with a host of well known producers working with them on their new album.
Launched earlier this year with a performance at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, ‘Something For Everyone’ features some well known producers.
DEVO have been joined by Brooklyn singer Santigold, who has helped construct some new material. The pop star previously worked with the likes of Christina Aguilera, before turning solo with a stunning debut album.
Working on new material, Santigold took time out to work with some of her heroes. Also on the cast of guest producers is Greg Kurstin, who has previously worked with both Lily Allen and Little Boots.
Also a full time member of The Bird And The Bee, the cast also includes Santigold’s former Stiffed bandmate John Hill and John King of the Dust Brothers.
Due for release on June 14th, the album ends a two decade long period of silence. Guest starring drummer Josh Freese of Nine Inch Nails, the material updates the classic DEVO template for the new Millennium.
“The world is in sync with DEVO,” said Gerald Casale. “We’re not the guys who freak people out and scare them – we’re like the house band on the Titanic, entertaining everybody as we go down.”
