David Bowie catalog to save EMI, label prays

EMI is banking its past will provide for a better future at the beleaguered major label by trying to revive its catalogs and compilations division. While EMI has given the royal treatment in terms of repackaging music from The Beatles, the label says it hasn’t done the same for Bowie. And man, did he kick ass between, say, 1971 and 1980, so let’s seem some releases, rarities, DVDs, B-sides, outtakes etc. The new head of the C&C division admitted it might not be easy to persuade “ageing superstars” to agree to a rerelease of familiar material. Indeed, this is The Thin White Duke we’re talking about here. He’s more of a move-forward rather than revisit-the-past type of guy.
