About Japancakes:

This Athens, Georgia group defies standard musical categories. The songs often build from a single chord to which the band adds complex layers of cello, pedal steel guitar, old 70s keyboards, found sounds, and waves of lush guitars. This music manages to be great mood music that also merits close attention, revealing all kinds of hidden gems in the many layers of sounds. This is complex, beautiful, and innovative music.

About National Grain:

Pulling from influences such as Uncle Tupelo, George Jones and The Replacements. National Grain’s music is something akin to country, rock and honky-tonk strained through and old AM radio. The music is conceived, written, practiced, performed and should be enjoyed while surrounded by cigarette smoke and beer.

Special Guest: Paul Melancon

Paul writes depressing songs that sound upbeat, and upbeat songs that sound depressing. Paul has been graced with an unusually gifted voice and a knack for writing well-crafted pop songs hiding disturbed and defective characters inside. His tools are the bittersweet melody, lyrical depth, and sardonic wit found in fellow artists such as Michael Penn, Neil Finn and Elvis Costello. When whipped into a frenzy, they can shake and pop like a drunk Nick Lowe.

RIYL: Yo La Tengo, Wilco, Stereolab, Flaming Lips, Hank Williams, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Calexico, Uncle Tupelo.
