Low to Release Compilation

Softcore pioneers Low are releasing a compilation box titled A Lifetime of Temporary Relief: 10 Years of B-Sides & Rarities on their own Chairkickers Union imprint July 20. Consisting of three CDs, a DVD and a 32-page booklet, A Lifetime… is an exhaustive collection of (as the title implies) B-sides, rarities, outtakes and demos culled from the Duluth, Minn. trio’s decade-long career. The set features more than 53 songs pulled from all over their catalog, ranging from early bedroom recordings such as 1994’s I Could Live in Hope and 1995’s Long Division all the way to vinyl-only tracks from their last release, 2002’s Trust (Kranky). The DVD includes 11 Low videos, live footage and a series of documentaries, offering a historical and informative backdrop to the collection of somber, reflective and utterly minimal tunes penned by the group over the last 10 years. In other Low news, the band is currently in studio with Kranky producer Dave Fridman (Dot Allison, Delgados, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev and Mogwai), recording the follow-up longplayer to Trust. The forthcoming album is not expected to be released until sometime next year.
